V.I.P. Model Agencies informs you that with a 16 percent unemployment rate in our community, and with half of Black men out of work in some urban areas, we need to be able to generate some jobs to employ our people. But we won't generate the jobs if our 1.9 million businesses can't generate more than $137.5 billion in receipts . Black owned businesses employed 921,032 people, less than 1 percent of those employed. If we African-Americans doubled our spending with Black-owned businesses, increasing employment by even 50 percent to 1.3 million, we could reduce the Black unemployment rate, if only by a small amount.
